Importance of; Religion

Today, we live in a world where there are no boundaries, a world where sometimes right is wrong, wrong could be right and the winner reigns supreme. Religion seems to be of little importance. What then, is the essence of religion? In essence, it is a set of beliefs that can guide one through incalculable numbers of situations. Some people claim that religion, in the modern world, undermines people and that people could do without religious pressure. Others feel that religion is crucial to the development of the mind, body and soul of every individual. I strongly disagree that religion has no part in the modern world; on the cotrary, religion is more important than ever in today's society.

Fist, religion has a positive impact on people's life. 'teens who consider religion important in their lives are half likely as other teens to drink or smoke marijuana and cigarettes'. For one teen, 'If you do something bad, it's like you're hurting God. The more you do it, the higher the barrier, and the more empty you'll feel'. Religion has more or less been a guiding force and it continues to instill in people that life has meaning and value. There appears to be a significant difference in the behavior of those who are religious as opposed to those who do not believe in God. So, how can we say that religion has no place in the modern world? We need it more than ever!

Religion teaches people how to exert their energy in more positive forms, reaching towards a higher standard of life. Religion also instills the importance of leadership, education and social services.

Religion gives followers a model for living their faith. It teaches us how to live in a world like ours and it serves as the ground for our conscience. We are able to face problems with courage and hope because of a strong faith in God. Atheist; people without a religion have no single path to follow in order to lead an ideal life, they only cling on to their personal beliefs and experiences.

The absence of religion would be detrimental because religion is an essential part of human life. If humans were to neglect or deny religion, the world will become a desolate place, devoid of any hope.
